Kinesis research presented at BHI-BSN 2018!

Recent research from the Kinesis team was presented at the The IEEE Conference on Biomedical and Health Informatics (BHI) 2018 and the IEEE Conference on Body Sensor Networks (BSN) 2018 in Las Vegas, 4-7th March 2018.
Kinesis was represented by our CTO Dr. Barry Greene who presented two papers; one entitled “Automatic fusion of inertial sensors and clinical risk factors for accurate fall risk assessment during balance assessment” and the second entitled “Objective assessment of functional mobility using the TUG test”.
We were honoured to be selected as a finalist in the Industrial Showcase Awards at the 2018 IEEE International Conference on Biomedical and Health Informatics (BHI) and Wearable and Implantable Body Sensor Networks (BSN). The industry showcase, sought to highlight some of the most innovative new products in the market, with a particular focus on chronic disease management.

New study shows QTUG™ predicts falls in Parkinson's disease within 30 days

Recent research published in the Journal of Rehabilitation and Assistive Technologies Engineering reports that Kinesis QTUG™ is reliable for assessment of mobility in people with Parkinson's and is more accurate in predicting falls within 30 days than the TUG time alone.
The paper, entitled "Longitudinal assessment of falls in patients with Parkinson’s disease using inertial sensors and the Timed Up and Go test" can be read here .

Kinesis awarded place on NHS procurement framework!

Kinesis have been awarded a place on a new NHS framework agreement to support rapid implementation and spread of innovative falls prevention and management solution. East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN), supported by the North of England Commercial Procurement Collaborative, has established a new framework following an open OJEU tender exercise. Companies selected for the framework are offering innovative products and services which, when deployed in combination with related healthcare pathway changes, can deliver improvements in falls prevention and management across a healthcare economy.

Barry Greene presented recent work on Prediction of Falls in Parkinsons using wearable sensors and the TUG test event, as well as recent work on Improved Assessment of Falls Risk using Wearable sensors combined with Clinical Risk Factors for Falls.

Kinesis partner to examine clinical trials of the future!

Kinesis Health Technologies are joining Intel, Big Cloud Analytics and ICON as part of a collaborative study, run by the Applied Reseach for Connected Health (ARCH) centre in University College Dublin (UCD), to assess the feasibility of collecting clinical trial data remotely within a care home environment.

The REACHES (REmote Assessment of older people in a Care HomE Setting) study will deploy a number wearable technologies to a nursing home environment to examine location shifting and fall prevention in a nursing home environment.

Improved falls risk assessment using QTUG™

A new study published in the IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics (J-BHI) has shown that QTUG™ can provide more accurate assessment of fall risk in older adults, by automatically combining clinical questionnaire data with body-worn sensor data.

The study reports data from a population of 748 older adults and includes an independent validation of the accuracy of QTUG™ for fall risk assessment. Click here to read the article.

Kinesis Health Technologies now registered with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as the Health Products Regulatory Authority (formerly the Irish Medicines Board (IMB)) as a medical device manufacturer.
